Hello, awesome 8th graders!

Just a quick reminder from your friendly English teacher – it's totally, absolutely, and wonderfully okay to make mistakes. Yep, you heard that right!  Mistakes are like those little road signs that point us towards learning and growth. They're not detours; they're stepping stones. Rest assured, I'm here to help and support you fully. Remember, there's always a way to keep trying until you master it.​

Below, you will see two buttons!  The first is information about how I'll grade each assessment, including some resources that will help you succeed.  The second is a form to request a redo.  This is the only way to request a redo. 

 

I've also included the honor code and consequences for violating the honor code. If you get "stuck", the best way to get "unstuck" is to COMMUNICATE with me.

Honor Code
 

Honor Code: Any type of Honor Code violation, including plagiarism, submitting a bogus assignment or a blank document as a placeholder, will be given a permanent zero (per the Honor Code consequences detailed below) until a discussion and resolution concerning the incident occurs. This will be noted in the student’s Discipline Data View and will be a permanent part of their Connections academic record.

  • FIRST OFFENSE: A ZERO on the assignment until you have a conference with Miss Shimmin and redo the assignment. 

  • SECOND OFFENSE:  A ZERO on the assignment until you have a conference with Miss Shimmin and Learning Coach.  You will need to redo the assignment. 

  • THIRD OFFENSE: A ZERO on the assignment until a conference with Miss Shimmin and Learning Coach.  A referral will be sent to admin. as an honor code violation. 

  • FOURTH OFFENSE: Direct referral to admin. for discipline.  You will receive a PERMANENT ZERO.
